Provider Independent (PI) address space is assigned by the RIPE NCC to your organisation, not to us. The space is yours, and it goes with you if you ever leave. isp6 is an automated LIR and the application is self-service. No membership needed, and no email thread. People do two things: review your documents, and file with the RIPE NCC.

What the setup fee pays for. The document checks, the review of your addressing plan and topology, and the endorsement before we file. Charged once, before filing, and not refunded if the application is withdrawn or declined. A re-file after a decline is not charged again.
PI and an AS Number together run as one application: both setup fees are charged up front, and each resource starts its own annual sponsorship when the RIPE NCC issues it.
Three phases. Self-service until we file it.
PI is an application, not a checkout. RIPE policy asks for a plan and a justification, we review the documents, agreements get signed, and RIPE NCC staff evaluate the request. A membership /48 is live in minutes; PI is measured in weeks, and if fast and uncomplicated is what the job needs, membership is the better fit. By hand, most of those weeks are an email thread: every missing document or mistyped handle costs another round trip. Here the platform runs the application: your RIPE handles are checked live against the RIPE Database, the agreements are e-signed, the fee is paid at checkout, and each step checks its own inputs before you can move on. The readiness check that opens the journey says whether a request would fail under RIPE policy, and what would change the answer.
Verify your organisation
Create an account and verify your email, phone and identity (a one-off £20 / €24). Then name your application and confirm the legal entity that will hold the resource. Once the setup fee is paid we verify that entity, and check its RIPE handles, maintainer and contacts live against the RIPE Database before we file.
Build your application
The technical case. PI asks for your network topology and a two-year addressing plan; an AS Number asks for your routing policy and two named upstreams. Upload proof of legal status, e-sign the sponsorship agreements, and pay the setup fee. We review every document before anything is filed, and come back with specifics rather than a rejection.
isp6 files it with RIPE
We endorse the application and file it through the RIPE LIR Portal. That review and that filing are the two steps done by people. Everything before them ran on the platform. RIPE NCC staff evaluate, typically in 2 to 3 business days. On issue the objects are created under your organisation, the annual sponsorship starts, and from then on you manage RPKI, route objects and reverse DNS at RIPE, under your own maintainer.
